BIOMÉRIEUX
OT AUTOMATION CRAPONNE SITE
The project consisted in developing a client-rich application to print Preventive Work Orders (PTOs) and associated Kanban sheets for the bioMérieux Craponne site.
Total project duration 2 months
The total cost of the project was 30 man-days.
Details of the project :
Problematic
The process of printing the WBS/KANBAN labels on the Craponne site involves several manual steps :
- Daily manual start of WBS (Preventive Work Order) generation in the CARL application
- Manually start printing the corresponding TOs.
In addition, the TO master records must now be accompanied by KANBAN labels.
Mission statement
Implementation of a .net application that will automate :
- the process of exporting information from CARL,
- Printing of the summary schedule of WOs,
- Printing KANBAN labels (priority is indicated with a coloured visual indicator),
- Printing of TOs with the associated document (procedure).
All these operations must be automatic and programmable by BioMérieux.
Organization
For the realization of the project, 2 persons have been allocated :
- 1 Project Manager,
- 1 Development Engineers.
This contract was executed entirely with Tana Corp resources dedicated to the project.
Main characteristics of the client
A global player in the field of in vitro diagnostics for over 40 years, BioMérieux offers diagnostic solutions (reagents, instruments and software) that determine the origin of a disease or contamination to improve patient health and ensure consumer safety.
BioMérieux’s distribution network is present in more than 150 countries. The company is listed on Euronext Paris with sales of more than one billion euros per year.
Conduct of the project
Solution feature
Business processes covered by the solution
- Printing the job summary report
- Printing of the intervention sheets
- Printing kanbans to monitor the progress of the tasks
What were the most difficult features to implement?
The crucial point of the project was interfacing with the Carl Master CMMS software. In fact, all the data required for the application came from its database.
Solution: the OTP Automation project for the Marcy l’Etoile site made it possible to develop and validate the access interface to Carl Master. This interface was recovered for the new project.
Technical platform elements
Software package, software or development languages used
After analysis of all the constraints, Tana Corp proposed the realization of a custom application, based entirely on a Microsoft solution:
- Microsoft .Net Framework, C# language, Crystal Reports
Reasons for the choice
- Microsoft .Net with C#: In order to improve productivity, the interface had to offer good ergonomics and a good integration into the Windows operating system. In addition, Crystal Reports allows the creation of very complex reports. The choice of this technology was made in close collaboration with the customer.
Share of pre-existing developments used on which the Supplier has capitalized to complete the project
- Technical architecture and access interface to Carl Master retrieved from the OTP Automation project at the Marcy l’Etoile site
Challenges and key success factors
Robustness: It is important that the application can run every day without human intervention.
Business result
Today the application is used in production and has allowed considerable time savings on the preparation and printing of WBS master records, while allowing the associated kanban master records to be printed.
